A Big Modern Update

Jan 4, 2016

If you remember several months ago I had a design inspiration post for the new house. It was a combination of French and transitional style. I called it a modern take on Old World style. You can find it here. My home is a modern French country style, but I like a dose of modern mixed in. I decided it was getting a bit too traditional in the living room even though I loved the way it was turning out.

I set out to find a big, abstract painting for the short wall next to the fireplace and I found it! I absolutely love this painting. I thought it would be very polarizing, but surprisingly everyone has "said" they love it. I'm really okay if they don't. It's not like I painted it!

There is a bit of a hiccup to overcome with the thermostat in the way. I'm still waiting to hear if we can move it a foot to the right so the painting can be centered on the wall. If not, I have alternate plans of adding height with a chair and a sconce to the right side. I'd rather have two chairs for extra seating instead of one chair so hopefully it can be moved.

And Mario likes it, too.

It wouldn't be right not to include a photobomb from Mario. Doesn't he look handsome with his haircut? There are still plenty of things to do in this room, but it's so close to being finished. My list gets shorter by the week!

  1. New year brings exciting new things and we have something VERY exciting to share with you!

  2. I love everything you do, and this is no exception. You have such good instinct and true talent. The art is a bold and surprising choice, but it is PERFECT to achieve what you want. I'm not sure I would have thought of it - I might have done a color block instead - but your choice is better I think. LOVE. PS don't you hate how the plans always have the switches and things spread out into the wall like that?? So much easier if they had just lumped the thermostat and switches together initially because it makes sense anyway!
Anyway, I hope you're enjoying the new digs :)

  3. Your home is beautiful!! We have some similarities in our houses. You are in TX too, right? I saw one of your pins on Pinterest and then stopped by your blog. Keep up the great work!
