Project Updates

Apr 3, 2013

There are several projects going on around my house right now. It might sound crazy...and it is.

We're still trying to finish decorating the office. It's taken a backseat to our other projects because at least that room is decent and functional, which is more than I can say about some other rooms in this house. I bought new artwork that I should get around to hanging up one day, some desk accessories, and a lamp that I desperately needed since the overhead lighting isn't too bright. The biggest change happened when I got a wild hair one morning and decided to play switcheroo with the furniture. I moved the desk to face the window and put the credenza in it's place.

I love it this way! It also freed up an entire wall across from the desk. I haven't done anything with that wall yet, but I'm kicking around some ideas. FYI, that chair used to be in our bedroom and we're just using it temporarily. My husband says it's so comfortable that he wants to keep it. I may just end up recovering it.

I get to spy on the neighbors with the desk turned this way, too. ;)

Then, there's the stairs. Oh, the stairs!

This is the never ending paint project. I still have to do one more coat of black and then I get to move on to the white. The kids were doing great skipping every other stair until this past weekend. There are so many little kid and puppy prints I have to fix. Argh! Other than that, I'm so pleased with the oil based enamel paint. I was advised against using oil based paint (again) by a salesman. I learned my lesson the hard way with latex on wood and even though I was almost swayed because he's the expert, I stuck to my guns. I'm so glad I did because the finish is rock hard, shiny, and smooth. Love this paint!

And, we started the gameroom. I should clarify that and say my husband started the gameroom. After I got home last Saturday from my son's football game I was surprised to see my husband working on the wainscoting we talked about. As happy as I was to see it go up, I would have liked to prime the walls first. It's still not quite finished, but this is what he did in just a couple of hours. Not bad, eh?

I see a lot more caulking and painting in my future. I should just give up manicures for the next month or two.

Also, if you have noticed a lot of photos missing from older posts it's because the links were broken when photobucket updated their format. I'm trying to add the pictures back in, but doing that for six months of posts is taking a little while. If there's anything you want to see, feel free to email me and I'll work on those posts first.

  1. Oh those paint "experts". I think those of us who actually USE paints are the experts. ;) I used a Valspar Porch and Floor on my wood floors and loooove it. I was told by an "expert", when we were shopping around for exterior deck paint that oilbased is being phased out due to EPA concerns. :( It may not be green, but it sure holds up! Your stairs will look great when finished. I was thinking it really must be confusing for kids and dogs to learn which steps are now every other one. lol

    1. Yes, they were confused! I marked out the ones they could step on with painter's tape, but they couldn't remember if that meant you could or couldn't step on it. And, puppy has separation anxiety. He jumped over his crate to get to me on the stairs, lol. I've heard the same thing about oil based paint being phased out. I even heard in certain states you can't even buy it!

  5. At least you're working on projects. I have plans for so many spaces, but I'm kind of procrastinating. Once our rug arrives for the front entrance, I'll have no excuse to wait any longer. And our family room sectional is arriving 2 weeks later than expected. It's frustrating because I wanted to finish up those projects before I start anything else. Love the wainscoting throughout your house. Is your husband for hire LOL?

    1. Ha! He keeps telling me how done he is with woodwork. We have two more rooms to go after this project (upstairs bathrooms) and then he's officially retired from woodworking. That's okay because I really want my garage back! I can't wait to see your new sectional. I'd love to replace our leather couches with a comfy fabric sectional, but we have to stop spilling things on the leather before I'll attempt it.

  7. You're so lucky that your husband can do trim! If mine could, he would never get to his real job :)
