Warming Up the Entry

Apr 1, 2013

I was absolutely thrilled to finally have an entryway when we remodeled this past summer, but I still haven't gotten around to decorating it yet. With all of the work going on upstairs right now I will probably only be picking up things here and there.  I haven't even decided on the style yet, but I know the bare look is not it!

Then, I saw this gray ikat rug from Ballard Designs. Perfect! I love that it can go with both traditional and casual furniture since I'm not sure which direction I'm going in yet.

The best part is that it's an indoor/outdoor rug, so it's kid and puppy proof. This little guy may be cute, but his messes...not so much. Doesn't he just look guilty?

It's not like the typical plastic, shiny indoor/outdoor rugs I've seen in stores. It looks and feels more like a cotton mat. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the competing pattern of the office rug. Thankfully, the doors to the office stay closed most of the time so it's not too much of an issue.

There's still a lot that needs to be done-new front door, new console, art, lighting, accessories, etc. Despite that daunting list, I love that it feels so much warmer and welcoming when I walk through the door now. Isn't it amazing that one simple fix can make such an impact?

  1. You're new rug goes well with your wall colour, and is a nice complement to your red-toned floors and console table. Good choice!

    1. You never know how something is going to work out, especially when you buy it online. I was so happy it went perfectly in the space.

    1. He's a shih tzu and he comes by that name honestly, lol. We do love him so much already despite the housebreaking issue. It's a good thing he's cute!

  3. I guess we are on the same page today! I love your rug and don't mind it with the orange one. Perhaps if you pull a little orange into your front entrance it will all make sense and be a little more cohesive. Your puppy is adorable!

    1. He was sniffing my rug right before I took that picture and you know what that means! He knows he's supposed to go outside so it's a battle of wills right now, lol. I really, really want a new front door right now, but with all of the other projects going on right now I don't see it happening for a while. I suppose I'll just focus on the other elements in the room for now.

  5. The little one certainly looks rather guilty at the camera. Hope you will win the fight and teach him not to mess up your new rug. As I am speaking of rugs, I really liked yours :)
