The Evolution of Our Family Room

Sep 7, 2012

This is our family room when we first moved in many years ago. It was pretty much a plain rectangular box. The only redeeming feature was the stacked stone fireplace.

Then we added shelves:

But, it still wasn't quite right.  When my husband and I were adding crown moulding we decided to add some moulding to the fireplace too and paint it white to match the crown.  Much better!

And here it is today!  We did a little decorating, added some moulding around the windows, and painted the walls SW Comfort Gray.  I love this color.  It's gray-blue or gray-green depending on the light.  The trim is the same color as the kitchen cabinets.  The floors are a mahogany tile that's made to look like wood.  I had considered real wood, but tile just fits our lifestyle better.
